Shaka Hislop

Hislop started his career in goal for Reading FC at the start of the 1992-93 season. He was an integral part of the Reading team that was promoted to the second division. In total he made 104 appearances for the club and to this day is regarded as their greatest ever goalkeeper. His outstanding performances in goal for the club earned him a move to Newcastle United in the summer of 1995 and he was a regular during the 95-96 season, a campaign which witnessed Newcastle finishing as runners up in the premier league. In 1998, Hislop moved to West Ham, spending three seasons at the club before moving to Portsmouth in 2002, enjoying a three year spell at the club.

 

Steve Francis

Francis started his career in goal at the young age of 18 playing for Chelsea, he spent five seasons at the club, between 1982 and 1987 and he soon captured the attention of Reading FC. In the summer of 1987, Reading purchased the goal keeper for what proved to be a bargain of £15,000 and this in turn was widely regarded as one of the Royals best ever buys. He suffered injury for most of the 1988-89 season, however he went on to spend few seasons as first choice goal keeper at Reading. He was their star player of the 1989-90 season.
