Borislav Mikhailov

After appearing for Bulgaria during the 1994 world cup finals, Mikhailov moved to Reading in the summer of 1995, for a fee of £800,000 and replaced Shaka Hislop in goal for the Royals. To this date he is arguably Readings highest profile international ever to play for the club, as he has been capped 102 times for the Bulgarian national team, which in turn makes him their most capped ever player. His time however at Reading was hampered by a succession of injuries.

 

Mick Gooding

Gooding started his career playing for Rotherham United during the 1978-79 season, he soon moved on to play for Chesterfield United during the 1982-83 season before returning to Rotherham, spending three more seasons at the club, between 1983 and 1987. He went on to have season long spells at Peterborough and Wolves and then moved on to Reading. At Reading he spent a staggering 8 years at the club, recording a staggering 314 league appearances for them. He was such a favourite with the supporters that he was even installed as their player manager in 1994. Gooding ended his playing career with Southend United, retiring towards the end of 1999.

 

Jimmy Quinn

Quinn commenced his football career playing for Swindon Town in 1981, a club he went on spending three years with, notching up over 50 appearances. He soon moved on to play for Blackburn before enjoying another spell at Swindon. He spent one season playing for Leicester City during the 1988-89 season. It was during his two year spell at West Ham when Quinn came to the fore in English football, his 47 appearances at the club, produced a reasonable 18 goals and soon earned him a move to Bournemouth in 1991, a club he spent one season with. In the summer of 1992, Quinn signed for Reading FC and he enjoyed his most successful spell of his playing career at the club. The 1993-94 campaign was an incredible one for Quinn, he won the second division ‘golden boot’ award,’ scoring an astonishing 40 goals, in turn promoting the club to the first division. Quinn spent a total of five seasons at the club, scoring 71 goals in 182 appearances. He finished his playing career with Northwich Victoria and Hereford United. Quinn has also earned 48 caps representing Northern Ireland.
