Dave Kitson
After spending one season playing for Arlesey Town, Kitson moved to Cambridge United at the start of the 2001-02 season and went on to spend three years at the club, scoring 40 goals in 102 appearances. Kitson moved to Reading mid way through the 2003-04 season and made an instant impact at the club, he has proven to be one of the most prolific goal scorers that the club has ever produced, so far, scoring a staggering 42 goals in 88 appearances for the club. His goals helped Reading to promotion to the top flight at the end of the 2005-06 season.
Steve Sidwell
Sidwell started his playing career off with Brentford during the 2001-02 season, notching up 30 appearances, scoring four goals for the club in his central midfield position. He moved on to play for Brighton and Hove Albion the following season before making a permanent move to Reading FC in January 2003. He was outstanding during the 2003-04 season for the Royals, becoming an instant fans favourite. Sidwell was a major factor to Reading’s championship winning season of 2005-06 which in turn saw the club to promotion to the premier league. His outstanding performances during the campaign earned the player a position in the ‘championship team of the year,’ named by the professional footballers association.
Leroy Lita
Lita started his career off playing for Bristol City in 2002 and soon became prolific in front of goal, scoring 31 goals in 87 appearances for the club. His great displays earned the player a move to Reading FC in the summer of 2005 for a club record fee of £1 million. He soon became a favourite with the Reading fans, scoring 12 goals in 31 league appearances for the club, in turn helping the Royals to promotion to the premier league by the end of the campaign. He has also represented England for the Under 21’s level.
Kevin Doyle
Doyle came to the fore during his spell playing for Cork City in 2003, during his two seasons at the club he scored a prolific 23 goals playing in his right wing position at the time. In the summer of 2005, Doyle signed for Reading for what has proven to be a bargain of £78,000. He became an integral part of the Reading team during the 2005-06 season and was prolific in front of goal, helping the club to promotion by winning the championship. He was named as the clubs player of the year by the end of the season. He is now a key member of their first team for their 2006-07 premiership campaign, scoring against Manchester United in their premiership clash at the start of the season. |
